Sunday - not a Fun Day!

I woke up this morning in severe pain as my whole body seemed to ache. However, it was my neck (6) and shoulders (6) that affected me the most. As the day progressed, I felt better, however, my rt knee (5.5) still seems to be a cause for concern. Nothing really felt great other than my ankle (3). My groin (6) seems to be nagging me constantly, but I come to expect the pain. Same can be said about my tailbone (6).

I didn't do anything special today other than lay around and watch TV. I didn't get outside either as I took a couple of naps after I had taken some Advil. I DID NOT take any Advil last night, so that's probably the reason why I woke up in such pain. Needless to say, I just took three Advils in hopes that I won't have to go through the same pain I experienced this morning.

Here's to a good week for me!

Saturday Soreness

All good things must come to an end as my string of two consecutive days of feeling good came to an abrupt halt. I probably could've prevented some of the pain I experienced today by not walking barefoot so much, but my achilles (5) felt as though someone was stabbing me with a knife at least once an hour. My ankle held up well, but for the first time in awhile, my knee (5.5) was the headliner causing me the most pain. The pain seems to be under my knee cap on the outer side. It's located in one specific area, so I'm hoping that it's nothing major.

My shoulders and neck (5) progressively got worse as they went on and I tried to counter the soreness by using my crutches. As always, the groin (5) and tailbone (5) were constant reminders that I have to pay attention to my every move especially as to how I sit and get up.

I never set a foot - or cast - outside as I probably need to get some fresh air tomorrow. I took two Advils earlier, but I'm probably going to bypass any type of pain medication this evening. I'm just too lazy to go downstairs to get some anyway.

Back-to-Back

For the second consecutive day I managed to get through the day without much discomfort. I started to feel some aches and pains in my shoulder and neck (4.5) areas late in the day, but I went back to crutches and started to feel fine again. I'm starting to believe that the more I use crutches, and the more I workout my upper body, the pain seems to diminish.

As for my ankle, I couldn't have asked for better results. I was able to carry my niece without much incident as well as take a shower. I did, however, take a few Advils, but that was more precautionary than anything else.

Naturally, the groin (5) and tailbone (4.5) acted up only when I overused those areas, but nothing major.

I didn't move around too much today, but I did have a rough time sleeping last night and thus was constantly fatigued. My spirits were uplifted however as my aunt and cousin came over to visit which led my sister and my niece to swing on by as well.

Supporting Cast

Its been eight days since my surgery and I was able to remove my splint/cast today and be fitted for a new walking aircast. I guess it must have been the relief of not being "low-jacked" 24/7 with the splint, but not having to wear it has made life so much easier. No longer do I have to wear crutches and struggle to make it from my room to the bathroom.

I'll be wearing the walking boot for the next three weeks before heading off to physical therapy for about three months.

As far as the rest of my day went, I felt some grabbing in both my achilles (4) as well as my repaired ankle (4.5), but nothing out of the ordinary and definitely not anything to worry about. Groin (5), tailbone (4.5) and shoulders (4) all responded well today as it was probably my best day since the surgery. Even as I end my day logging this entry, my shoulders are holding up well and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that tomorrow can be a repeat of today.

Break in the Weather

I went to bed last night with severe pain in my sternum which caused me to be balled up in the fetal position most of the night. Surprisingly, I woke up this morning relatively pain free and stayed that way for almost the entire day. Some shoulder (4) and neck (3.5) stiffness affected me late in the evening, but nothing major.

With a complete 180 from last night, my sternum/chest (3) actually felt good today and I haven't taken anything for the pain. Yes, the groin (5) and tailbone (5) pain will always be there to some degree, but I didn't do much to activate either one of them.

Tomorrow I get my splint off and I'm happy to get into a walking boot and off the crutches.

I guess the only real negative is the psoriasis that continues to litter my backside and thighs. I guess it's induced by all of the stress that I've been under of late. I almost forgot that I still have to address my high blood pressure, so I'll have to make an appointment tomorrow with the doctor for that.

Terrible Tuesday

Words can't really describe the pain I've endured for the better part of today (Tuesday). I knew I was in for some trouble the minute I woke up and couldn't roll over to my side as my chest (7.5) was absolutely killing me. It felt as though I had just been struck with a 90 mph softball square in my chest (right at the breast bone). Didn't get much better throughout the day as other ailments became evident such as my tailbone (7), groin (6) and shoulders (5.5) late in the evening. I just popped in three Advils, so let's hope that does the trick.

Despite the constant pain, I still managed to grill some chicken today outside as I know I've been putting too much weight on my surgically repaired ankle. When I took a shower this pm, I did feel a "twinge" in my ankle (3), but that's probably the first time in a week that I've felt anything out of the ordinary.

Surprisingly, my left achilles (4) let me know that he too wanted some attention, but only until this pm. I'm guessing that all of the standing around I did today it was inevitable that some pain would arise.

I didn't take any Advils during the day as I tried to just sit/lay still, but even then I was still in some pain. Everything hurts right now as I'm about to go to bed hoping that tomorrow at least gives me another opportunity to be a step closer to my goal of being "relatively" pain free.

Tale of Two Mondays

Woke up feeling fairly well this morning, but I definitely didn't feel as good as I did yesterday. First thing I noticed was my chest/breast/sternum area (6) and then my tailbone (6). As the day progressed both areas increased a point in the pain-o-meter as I'm having a rough night. I took three Advils in hopes that the pain will calm down, but so far no good.

My shoulders (5) and neck (5.5) didn't start to hurt until late in the day. Again, it's probably a result of me not being active and laying around for most of the day.

On the plus side, I was able to take a shower this afternoon without much incident. My surgically repaired ankle feels great as I'm putting some pressure, even though I'm not supposed to, on it when I walk with crutches. Also, I was able to get outside and eat my lunch on my deck so that I can soak in some much-needed sun.

Sunday...That's my FUN DAY!

Woke up feeling great this morning as I didn't have many aches and pains. The left shoulder (4) and the chest (4) were probably the two areas that I can comment about. My knee and tailbone weren't really an issue until later on in the day. As for my ankle, the only problem I've been having is the itching.

As the day wore on, my chest started to bother me a bit, but considering this was my first good day since surgery, I'm rather happy as to where I'm at. My right knee (5) hurts when I lay on my stomach and extend it, but other than sleeping, I'm trying to avoid that position.

Also, the back of my neck started to stiffen after I had barbecued this evening.

So, let's chalk up today as a very good day with not much pain. I still took three Advils, but nothing else. I'm do take my daily Glucosamine and Zinc pills, but no longer am I taking Vicodin and the anti-biotics.

Saturday Night Live

Woke up this morning with soreness throughout the body as I definitely felt it in my neck (5) and left shoulder (6). I took a Vicodin last night around 11:30 pm, but all that ended up doing was keeping me up for most of the night. My anxiety levels were high as well as I think I must have gone to the bathroom about five times throughout the night.

Ankle feels great other than the fact that I have a lot of itching underneath the bandages. Once again, my two main areas of concern are my knee (6) and right groin (6.5). I continue to probe at my groin area trying to see if I can't either rehabilitate it or pinpoint the exact problem area. Oh yeah....the chest area was sore again (5) today probably even more so than yesterday.

My tailbone (4) was better than yesterday despite me sitting and lying down most of the day. I went out on the deck for about 10 minutes, but other than that, I haven't left my house since I came home from surgery.

No more Vicodin for me as I don't like the effect it has on me. Granted, it does numb some of the pain, but it seems to keep me "antsy" and I can't calm down once I take it. So, for now, I'm going to stick to Advil.

Post Surgery Management

Took a shower today and I didn’t have any problems with my surgically repaired ankle other than some itching. Neck (4), shoulders (5) and chest (4) hurt a little more than yesterday as I haven’t taken any Vicodin as of 10:00 pm. Noticed that my psoriasis is worse than normal and seems to have acted up because of the added stress. Speaking of which, my stress levels have been high today as I’m trying to do some deep breathing exercises to bring my anxiety levels down.

- ZERO pain in my left index finger when I open and shut my hand. Only pain I feel is if I physically touch/rub the area where the cortisone shot was given.
- Worse pain of the day is in the right groin (6.5) as I’ve been trying to stretch and pinpoint the problem area. Since I’m on crutches, it hasn’t hurt me while walking.
- Tailbone (6) has been an issue still as I’ve spent most of the day sitting down.
- Pain below my right knee (6) persists especially when I try to lay down on my stomach. Very sharp pain that hurts more when I extend my leg as opposed to when the leg is bent.
